Hypnosis is an altered state of consciousness. Even though it has not yet been precisely determined what hypnosis actually is, it has been proven to be effective. The hypnotic state allows the client to access internal processes, emotions, and experiences that would not be accessible to them in the waking state. The trance state alters the structure of thinking and focuses attention on the words of the hypnotist. The effectiveness of this method has been particularly demonstrated in the area of relaxation. Hypnosis is also used in management training, in coaching, and is also used for self-management.
