10 Point Plan: 06 Handle resources responsibly

6. Handle resources responsibly

We take more from our planet than it can actually provide. And we are taking more and more, at an ever-increasing rate. We consume too much raw material, pollute too much water, catch too many fish, eat too much meat, cut down too much wood, produce far too much carbon dioxide. We are exhausting the Earth’s reserves. And far too fast!

Environmentalists warn that if we continue to live at our current standard of living as we have done thus far, we will need a second planet by 2030.

"There is no Planet B"

"There is no Planet B" has become a well-known slogan among environmentalists, because even if there are still people who do not believe in climate change today, it should now be clear to everyone that our resources are not infinite.

Your Tasks:

  • Become a Vegan! This is the most dramatic and consistent act a human being can take to reduce greenhouse gases.
  • Turn off the faucet while you wash your hands, brush your teeth or soap yourself during a shower.
  • Turn off the light when you are not in the room or not at home.
  • End your toilet’s flush cycle as soon as everything is rinsed down so that no unnecessary water is wasted.
  • Change to the most energy-efficient electrical appliances & light bulbs.
  • Dishwashing and laundry machines consume a lot of water with each usage - use them conscientiously.
  • Never turn off your heating completely in winter. A steady room temperature consumes less energy in the long run, as not all furniture and walls need to be completely reheated again.

A Rule of Thumb is: If you want to save money, you should also save resources. Try to live as sparingly as possible.
